Windy City

Exploring the Windy City

These pictures were taken about a month ago while I was in Chicago visiting my family. While technically I'm from there, I still always have to act like a tourist and visit The Bean (it's actually named Cloud Gate but no one calls it that since it's pretty much just a giant bean). It was a lot colder than what I'm used to, so I had to wear about four layers to be warm.

As corny as it sounds, this day reminds me how important it is to cherish moments with family. I don't get to see them often, so I always try to make the most out of the time I have with them. I miss them and this trip a lot. However, I don't miss the cold weather that was included.

Hope you enjoy this post! Merry Christmas Eve!

Above Chi-Town

A city can look a lot different 103 stories up. Last week I was in Chicago to visit family, and our first stop in the city was Willis Tower's sky deck. After paying $22 each (dumb) and riding a minute-long elevator to the last floor, we were greeted by a 360, birds-eye-view of Chicago. At first I thought it would be better to go during the day, but the streets' and buildings' lights against the dark sky looked pretty epic.

It was in the 40s and windy, so warmth was my main priority for this look. I wore my new Calvin Klein sweater, black leggings, and my Adidas. I wore a jacket and coat over it, along with gloves and a beanie, while I was outside.

Going to Willis Tower was something I had never done before in Chicago, and even though it's not free, it's an experience I would definitely recommend.

Finding Random Murals in LA

Random Art in LA

It's been a minute! I've been a very busy person, but that isn't a good enough excuse for not blogging for over a month. I could keep trying to come up with excuses or I could get over myself and continue something I enjoy doing. I'm choosing the latter.

Anyway, I went with my friend to a Frankie's Bikinis sample sale, and we found ourselves on the outskirts of Los Angeles slightly near where 6th Street Bridge is being torn down amongst various sketchy-looking warehouses. Half of them looked like a set of a music video or possibly the set of a Law & Order crime scene, but they mainly seemed to be undramatically for commercial businesses. While walking through them to reach the building of the sample sale, we spotted large, colorful murals in a dirt-covered alleyway near a construction zone. One of them featured a smiling mouth with crooked, yellow teeth. Cute. We thought it was funny, so we took pictures by it.

While not like my usual posts with different angles of the days' looks, I thought I would share this photo of our day in LA. I also shared a picture of one of the adorable bikinis I bought. Hope you enjoy this post!

San Fran

Having piles of homework really makes you miss summer. I can think of many places I'd rather be than at my desk surrounded by textbooks and unfinished work- one of those places being San Francisco. About a month ago I went, and it will be hard to forget standing at the top of a hill looking at the Golden Gate bridge with the ocean to my left and the cold wind breezing through my hair.

For this look it was very chilly so I layered a large flannel over a cardigan and wore a turtleneck crop top, high-waisted pants, and comfortable Adidas sneakers. It has a kind of 90s vibe.

Hope you enjoy this look!

Chinatown Chick

I'm currently writing from my hotel room in San Francisco. I'm also currently having blogger's block. I can't think of a cool, engaging way to tell you that I traveled to San Francisco a couple days ago and that I had the best orange chicken ever at Hunan House in Chinatown. (There, that works)

Speaking of Chinese food, San Francisco in general has amazing Chinese food, whether in Chinatown or not. Today I went to a restaurant called Old Shanghai Restaurant on Greary Blvd, and the atmosphere and food wasn't anything but authentic.

For this look, I wanted to wear something comfortable enough to walk around San Francisco's not-so-quads-friendly hilly sidewalks and warm enough for the chilly weather. I wore a pink, relaxed Wildfox sweater and comfy ripped denim. Adidas and a simple choker added a casual, urban vibe.

Hope you enjoy this look! If you go to San Francisco, I definitely recommend those two Chinese restaurants mentioned above. I also recommend sneakers and a warm sweater.

LA Black

Black with a Pop of Silver

If you ever go to LA, just count on there being many random, vibrant-colored walls capable of being the background of endless pictures. We've all seen the Paul Smith pink wall and "Made in LA" wall from Melrose Ave on Instagram. While this yellow/orange wall on Magnolia Blvd was not as cool or trendy as those, I still thought it would be a nice contrast to my mainly black outfit.

This look is definitely minimalistic. To avoid being all black, I added a touch of metallic with the silver loafers (I've talked about these shoes in another post).

Hope you enjoy this post!

Outfit of the Day

Hanging out with old friends is one of the best things to do. Have you ever had a friend from high school or college, and you don't even really talk all the time, but when you hang out it just feels like old times? You forget about all the time and chaos that has passed, and you feel like you're back in that past timeframe? Maybe it's just me, but that nostalgic feeling is a wonderful feeling.

The other day I went to the beach with a friend from high school, and we caught each other up on what's happening in our lives, shopped in Newport Beach (I bought some Birkenstocks, which to some people is horrific, but to me exciting), and went to Urth Cafe in Laguna Beach.

This was my look for the day. I tried to keep it simple and casual, yet added some flare with the boots and fun heart-shaped bag. I recently bought this bag and am in love with it. Hope you enjoy this post!

Inspiration from Farfetch

LFW Inspiration

I feel like clashing used to be tacky. It seemed fashion used to be all about cohesion and taking risks, yet keeping some sense of unity. Well, not anymore. A couple weeks ago, I was sent inspiration from luxury retailer Farfetch and was ultimately inspired by the pictures of street style during London Fashion Week. The main theme I noticed that translated amongst the stylish people in the photos was that there was a clash between a sense of glamour and a sense of casual care-freeness.

One casual element I was particularly drawn to was how many sneakers were at Fashion Week. People wore them with jeans, fur coats, skirts, etc. Sneakers have quickly become the it-shoe in fashion right now. Luckily, I have always had a sneaker fettish so this trend is definitely my aesthetic.

This look plays off that idea of sneakers with a little glamour. The gold of the sneaker and dark lips add a luxe vibe, while the loose silhouette of the jeans and tank add a casual vibe.

San Diego

Weekend in San Diego

School will be ending soon...which is positive because summer is near but also negative because that means finals, last minute projects, essays, and speeches are approaching. Since I know I am going to be stressed this next couple of weeks, I decided to have some fun in San Diego for the weekend.

The ocean breeze and sound of waves crashing was enough to clear my mind. The warm sand, cold ocean water, and warmth of the sun at the beach will never fail to relax me.

I unfortunately did not get a chance to take pictures of my looks for the weekend, but I wanted to share some pictures. More fashion-related posts are coming!

Weekend at the Beach

Beach Weekend's been a minute. While I've been extremely busy, I hate making excuses, so I'm not going to try to make any explaining why I haven't posted in a couple weeks. Anyway, this past weekend I got to have some fun and relaxation at the beach. I went Saturday and Sunday, and it was beautiful.

On Saturday I went with a friend to do some bikini shopping, stop by Urth Cafe, and then lay out in the sun. It felt nice to have a day to just relax and laugh with my friend. I also got to tan my pasty skin. I look a little less Wonder Bread and little more like I actually leave my house.

On Sunday I went with a group of my friends to the beach. I climbed on some of the rocks, and sitting on the ocean rocks with the ocean breeze calmly blowing by was instantly calming.

For my look on Saturday I wore an effortless, comfortable Free People romper. It ties as a halter and then on the back. It's easy to wear by itself or with a bathing suit. Hope you all had a great weekend!

March Favorites

Monthly Favorites: March

So I think I blinked my eyes once, and March was over. March was a very busy month for me. Since it's spring break though, I have enjoyed a little relaxation but still have homework to finish (it never ends). As much as I like to wear winter clothes such as jeans, baggy cardigans, etc, I am looking forward to dressing for spring, and I hope April brings good weather for it.

These are my favorite products that I have been using frequently during March. Half of these are products that I have used for years, and half are products that are new. They are all makeup-related.

Happy April!

Springtime Look

Spring Look

Midterms. Done. Studying. Done. Writing papers. Done...well, at least for a week.

The last few weeks have been a little exhausting with schoolwork, teaching, and dance. After this past weekend of dancing in a show and studying for exams, my brain and the rest of my muscles are ready for spring break. These pictures were from this past weekend before one of the shows. The dance company I am apart of went to brunch at this cute restaurant where I had amazing french toast.

For this look, I was by the beach and wanted it to be easy, relaxed, and appropriate for spring so I wore a Missguided crop top and short set with some leather white sandals. Happy spring break!

Statement Shoe

Look of the Day: Statement Shoe

Metallic shoes are something I thought I would never wear, but somehow I ended up with a pair of gold sneakers and silver loafers in my closet. In a previous post, I talked about my new L.A.M.B. loafers that I kind of bought randomly. Anyway, this is my first attempt at styling them.

It was rather warm this day, and I wanted to keep the outfit clean and simple, so I wore a form-fitting black crop top, black ripped skinny jeans, and a light printed jacket around my waist. When it's sunny and hot, black is not the best color to wear since the sunlight attracts to black fabric like white on rice, but for this look, I wanted the shoes to stand out so I wore simple black items to keep the focus on the shoes. Hope you enjoy this look and happy Monday!

Concert Look

Vance Joy Concert Look

Just imagine the happiest looking guy playing a guitar and singing the best music ever...that was Vance Joy's concert. Even though I focused mainly on the beautiful music, you can't help but enjoy the fact that you can tell he is in love with what he does. His music is so genuine, and it was interesting to hear the background stories of his songs.

So before I go on a rant about how much I love his music, I'm going to show you what I wore. I went with my friend Courtney, and we both went for an easy, semi-boho look.

I love the detailing of this Free People top. It is all sheer, but I feel it is still very tasteful because of its high neckline and appliqué detail that covers the chest area. It is edged with a ruffle effect on the bottom and at the sleeves that I love also. I wore it with my ripped Paige Denim jeans and Free People boots. My makeup was very simple, and I left my hair slightly messy for a relaxed vibe.

Monthly Favorites: February

Favorite Products of the Month: February

Recently I've been thinking a lot about summer...and then I snap out of my little day dream and realize it's barely March. Time flies, though, so I am staying optimistic knowing it will come soon.

I don't have an hour to spend getting ready each day, so I like products that are easy to use and efficient. This month especially has been a bit busy, so these products have been my go-tos.

Wednesday Addams Vibes

"I'll stop wearing black when they make a darker color"

As a kid, everyone knew the Addams Family opening song. (Da na na na *snap-snap Da na na na *snap-snap) I love Wednesday's understated sass and ability to not care what anyone else thinks.

What reminded me of her in this outfit was the collared neckline of the dress and of course the fact that it was black. She had two braids, but my side braid reminded me of her as well. To complement the dark dress, I wore my black Jeffrey Campbell loafers and a semi-dark lip.

Look of the Day: Stripes and Loafers

Look of the Day

So I know striped pants and loafers with tassels don't take up most 19-year-old girls' closets. However, they are some of my favorites. These pants to me are a mixture of 70s vintage and something that a circus performer would wear (just the most random combo). These shoes also make me look like I accidentally shopped in the men's section. But nonetheless, that's what I love about these items. They are unique, and they add an interesting element to whatever I wear with them.

For this look, I wore a simple loose black top to contrast the printed pants. I thought classic sandals would be boring, so I wore my loafers with it. I also wore a lot of gold jewelry and round sunglasses. Since it has been warm recently, this outfit has a summery feel.

Look of the Day: Pop of Red

Pop of Red

Dark colors- black, gray, navy...those are the colors I tend to gravitate towards when picking an outfit. That being said, all black ensembles, while still stylish, can start to become redundant. That is why I like to add pops of color, texture, or metallics to a mainly neutral outfit to make it more interesting.

For this look I added a red bag as my pop of color. My gray shirt had red on it, so it complemented the color of the bag. I wore black boyfriend jeans and loosely tucked in my shirt to create a casual feel that contrasted the formal look of the heels. I like the versatility and vibe of this look.

Simple Look: Crepes & Sun

Look of the Day: Crepes and Sunshine

When one thinks of February, they usually imagine snow falling, wearing coats, and making hot chocolate. However, California won't have any part of that. It was about 90 degrees yesterday, and there was no other option but to wear shorts and soak up the sunshine.

I went to The Packing House with a friend for lunch. The Packing House is this trendy, kind of hipstery place. Basically, if you don't own Birkenstocks or have a man bun, you won't fit in, but it's a fun place to eat. I got a crepe with strawberries, Nutella, and ice cream, and it was amazing of course.

For my look, I wore a thin, almost sheer top, a pair of fabric shorts with tassels on the end, some boots, and a loose cardigan that it ended up being too hot for. It was very casual and simple.

Patches for Days

DIY Denim Jacket

What happens when you look for something but can't find it? You make it yourself. I spent some time online looking for a denim jacket with patches. I found pictures on Pinterest that served as some nice design inspiration, but I could not find an actual jacket to purchase. Then it occurred to me. It's just a jacket. You don't have to be Christian Siriano to be able to sew some patches onto a jacket.

So, I bought some patches and trim, grabbed a needle and thread, and  spent an afternoon sewing.
I understand that this jacket is a little "out-there" (a polite way of saying obnoxious) but I like it.

Company Shoot

Company Shoot Outfit + Enter to Win a Voucher to

Black crop top, black shorts, heels, a hooded cardigan, and dark lips - not an everyday look for me to say the least. A couple Sundays ago a dance company that I am apart of shot some pictures for our upcoming show. It was very cold so I would have rather worn a onesie and slippers, (just kidding) but I decided on something a little more edgy. Here's a couple photos from the shoot.

January Favorites

Favorite Products of the Month: January

This month has flown by! As cliche as it sounds, I can't believe it's already been a full month in 2016. January was full of fun times, being with friends, dancing, and celebrating my birthday.

Anyway, I don't want to make you read a novel, so I'm just going to get into the favorites of January.

Hidden Gem

Unexpected Find

I think Gwen is one of the coolest people ever- her style, her music. So, naturally I love her fashion brand L.A.M.B. L.A.M.B. is a perfect mix of edgy, modern, feminine, and unique.

I went on a random Nordstrom Rack shopping trip with my mom. I hadn't shopped there in a while since it would usually be really hectic, but we went at night and not many people were there. I was looking in the shoes section and found these amazing silver python-skin-looking loafer/ankle boots. Realizing they were L.A.M.B., I automatically thought they would be very expensive, but they were a fraction of the retail price. My mom said she would buy them for me as a late birthday present, and I could not wait to style and wear them. I did not expect to find such an awesome pair of shoes, but sometimes you find things where you least expect it. ;)

Look of the Day

Black OOTD

One of my favorite colors is black. When it comes to fashion, I feel black items tend to be more timeless than colorful items. Neon has been a trend. Pastels have been a trend. However, it seems black is not a color that goes in and out of trend with clothes.

For this look, I wore mainly black, but I thought the black jacket with light, embroidered detailing made it more interesting. I also wore a black and purple striped shirt so that everything was not solid black. To complement the dark colors of the outfit, I wore dark lips.

This day was very fun. A friend and I went to a cute, hipstery place called The Camp. There was a lot of art and colorful things, but I was particularly drawn to the mural I took these pictures at.

Throwback Thursday Post: Chicago

For Thanksgiving 2015 I visited my family in Chicago. They don't live right in the city, more like the suburbs around it, but we spent a whole day in the windy city. The best part of Chicago is the deep dish pizza. Okay, so actually it's seeing my awesome family that I don't see that often, but the second best part is the pizza. My personal favorite is the deep dish from Gino's East.

On this particular day, we went to The Bean in Millennium Park. My first thought before going was "How impressive can a frickin giant bean be?" but once we went it was in fact impressive and very interesting. At some angles it reflects the city scape, which presents a beautiful view and good photo-taking opportunity. We walked through Millennium Park and then went to the Christkindlmarket, a German, Christmas-themed market of food, cultural goods, and lots of beer. It was very fun, but it did make me realize how much German I forgot since taking it in high school (Oh nein).

Since it was very cold and slightly windy, I packed on the layers. I wore a knit long-sleeve, a thick flannel, a jacket, and then a letterman-style jacket over it. I wore leggings and my Nikes to be comfortable and added my knit scarf, beanie, and gloves for warmth.

WILDFOX Sample Sale + Tips

Wildfox Sale + Sample Sale Tips

Last month, I went to a warehouse sale in Los Angeles for a Wildfox sample sale. For those who don't know what Wildfox is, it is a a casual brand that uses a lot of fun colors, prints, and super comfortable fabrics but is unfortunately pretty expensive. However, I love their brand and their style, and I wanted to take advantage of the substantially-lower prices of the sample sale.

Some sample sales can look like a reenactment of World War II, but luckily this sample sale was not that crazy. There weren't many people in the warehouse when I got there around 4 pm. In my previous experience, they have been a little more chaotic, so here are some easy tips.

Rain at the Beach

Rainy Days in Cali

Have you ever had your friends be so enthusiastically optimistic about a plan (that you subconsciously knew will never work) that you decided to go along with it? That's what I did yesterday. It started pouring in Cali. Rain in California is about as rare as a crocodile Birkin bag. It just almost doesn't even exist. However, some of my friends thought it would be fun to go to Laguna again as a little birthday celebration. While skeptical, I got in the car and we started the drive.

It was pouring to the point where one could barely see the cars in front of them, so we decided to exit the freeway and kill time at the mall before heading out to Laguna again. We made it just in time for the sunset, and as usual, it was beautiful. Two of my friends, whose sense of danger is pretty much slim to none, tried to climb the rocks to get a self-satisfactory picture of the sunset, but the waves crashed down on them and made them fall into the cold water in 54 degree weather. My other (sane) friend and I stayed dry, and we four went to get pazookies after the sun had set. When we left it was mildly sprinkling, but seeing the sunset was worth the cold weather and rain. While the weather conditions were not ideal to say the least, we still had a day full of laughter, music, and fun.

To stay warm, I wore a Lululemon ensemble and a thick knit scarf. I brought an extra letterman-like jacket that I layered on later. I used my Harper Ave backpack.

My Birthday

Birthday in LA

Another year, another birthday...I spent it in Los Angeles at the LACMA, Los Angeles County Museum of Art. I enjoy art and history, so I appreciated the history behind the pieces. There were multiple exhibitions of post-WWI art from Germany that portrayed the agony and chaos of the country at that time. There was also a lot of modern art, as well as works from different countries in Asia from centuries ago. I was happy to see work by some of my favorite artists, Picasso and Warhol.

It was cold in LA (anything below 70 is cold), so I wore thick jeans, a long sleeve, a slouchy cardigan, and boots. I layered a couple gold necklaces and a gold cuff to add some bling.

After the museum, we went to get pie on Melrose. We ate at Sweet Lady Jane, which I would definitely recommend to anyone who wants a sweet treat in LA.

 Henri Matisse
